At the conclusion of the celebrations marking the opening of the Abraham J. Heschel Center for Catholic-Jewish Relations at the Catholic University of Lublin, the center's board of directors, together with representatives of the university's authorities, took part in a prayer on the occasion of the celebrated holiday of Simchat Torah - the Feast of the Joy of Torah. The prayer in the Lublin synagogue located in Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin was led by Cantor Symcha Keller.
The prayer in the Lublin synagogue was attended by the center's board of directors: the director of the Heschel Center of the Catholic University of Lublin, Rev. Prof. Miroslaw S. Wróbel, and his deputies - Dr. Witold Wojciech Mędykowski from Jerusalem and Rev. Dr. Pawel Rytel-Andrianik from Warsaw. Also in attendance were representatives of the Catholic University of Lublin, headed by the Vice-Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin, Sr. Prof. Beata Zarzycka. Prof. Susannah Heschel, daughter of Prof. Abraham J. Heschel, participated in the joint celebration.
The holiday of Simchat Torah is a day of thanksgiving for the Torah. A sign of joy is dancing with the scrolls of the Pentateuch around the bimah. Torah passages are read. Starting on this day, a new cycle of parashah reading begins.
