May the immense goodness of the Eternal One be close to your community and accompany all efforts to deepen friendship between us, in the city of Rome and throughout the world, wrote Pope Leo XIV in a telegram to the Chief Rabbi of Rome on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah 5786 and the holidays of Yom Kippur and Sukkot.

The Pope sent his wishes for the new Jewish calendar year 5786, as well as for Yom Kippur and Sukkot, to the Chief Rabbi of Rome, Riccardo Di Segni, and to the entire community gathered around the Great Synagogue in Rome.

Gratitude for attending the inauguration

“I would like to express my warmest wishes to you and to the entire Jewish community in Rome,” wrote the Pope in a telegram. “I gratefully recall your presence at the inauguration of my Petrine office on May 18 this year,” added Leo XIV.

The gift of peace

He expressed his wishes for friendship and peace. “May the immense goodness of the Eternal One be close to your community and accompany all our efforts to deepen our friendship, in the city of Rome and throughout the world. May God, in His unfathomable mercy, grant us the gift of peace and a constant desire to bring it about. Shalom Alechem!” added the Holy Father in his telegram.
