Rabbi Joe Charnes from the United States - a theologian and teacher who has been involved for many years in interreligious dialogue between Judaism and Christianity - will be the special guest at the next meeting in the series “Two Pulpits”, this time devoted to the figure of St. Paul - both a Jew and a Christian. The event is scheduled for November 18, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Dominican Church in Lublin (9 Złota Street). It will take the form of an open debate, with time set aside for questions.
Rabbi Charnes passionately explores the spiritual and sacred dimensions of Jewish and Christian wisdom, emphasizing that “the first and most important quality of spiritual life is the ability to listen - to listen deeply.” He will be joined in conversation by Rev. Dr. habil. Marcin Kowalski from the Institute of Biblical Studies at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. His research focuses on the figure of St. Paul, his writings, and the influence his life and work have had on the Judeo-Christian world.
“We want to build the present and the future based on what the Second Vatican Council calls our common heritage of the spirit — the Bible and the spirituality from which Judeo-Christian culture has grown,” he said in a KUL program when asked about relations between Judaism and Christianity.
The meeting will include an inspiring exchange of ideas about the shared roots of faith, about dialogue, and about how the figure of the Apostle to the Nations can serve as a bridge between the religious traditions of Judaism and Christianity.
The event is co-organized by the Abraham J. Heschel Center for Catholic–Jewish Relations, with funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
