Admissions at the Catholic University of Lublin: We strongly emphasize permanent majors, with a particular focus on medical studies

The days following the May weekend are significant both for students graduating from high schools, who commence their matriculation exams then, and for the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, as this marks the beginning of the university admissions process. "The University offers nearly 100 majors, including specializations," emphasizes Monika Stojowska, deputy spokesperson at the Catholic University of Lublin, responsible for admissions communication.

Among the new courses are Management in English and Integral Ecology.

In 2024, the admissions process will start on May 6th. On this day, we will release offers for bachelor's and master's degree programs as well as long-cycle MA programs on our website: www.rekrut.kul.lublin.pl.

"This year, we are not introducing many new courses of study, as we already offer a wide range, and we believe that focusing on enhancing the quality of education in our existing programs is the right approach," says the Vice-Rector for Education Dr. Habil. Ewa Trzaskowska, Prof. KUL. "However, starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, we will introduce two new courses in hybrid mode for the first time: Romance Studies (BA), Italian Studies (MA), and Management in English (BA)," adds prof. Trzaskowska.

The recruitment for bachelor's and long-cycle MA programs will continue until July 12, 2024, with results scheduled to be announced by the afternoon of July 15. Subsequently, successful candidates will have three days (until July 18, 2024) to electronically confirm their choice of study."

However, this year's high school graduates do not need to register in the system immediately. They can calmly focus on achieving the best results in their high school exams and then take a well-deserved break after their hard work. It's advisable for them to return to the admissions process on July 9th, by which time they will already have their exam results," emphasizes Magdalena Pranagal, head of the Admissions Office. It is only then that they will have the opportunity to complete all the necessary formalities, including selecting majors, entering their results, and paying the admissions fee. "We would like to remind them not to input projected results into the system and to prioritize their selected majors (up to a maximum of three) in order of preference, with their most desired major placed at the top," she adds.

Candidates for second-degree studies have a bit more time, as the system will close on July 18, 2024, and the results will be available the following day, on July 19, after 5:30 p.m. Completing the formalities requires electronic confirmation of enrollment by July 31, 2024. "If a potential candidate has their bachelor's degree defense scheduled in the days just before the end of recruitment and has not yet received their diploma, this doesn't prevent them from applying," explains Sylwia Tomasik from the Admissions Office. "In such a scenario, it suffices for the candidate to provide a certificate from the Faculty Secretariat confirming the defense and the grade obtained in place of the diploma in the admissions system. They can then upload the diploma (which the university has 30 days to issue) once received," she emphasizes.

A new feature of this year's admissions process is the introduction of the free enrollment to majors with available vacancies after the competitive recruitment period. Admission decisions will be based on the grades obtained in subjects relevant to the chosen major as indicated on the matriculation certificate, along with the order of application. Recruitment will continue until all available spots in each program are filled. This option will be available starting from July 16, 2024. "However, we encourage candidates to apply during the first intake, as we anticipate that the most popular majors will definitely not appear in the free enrollment," says Magdalena Pranagal.

As a reminder, during the 2023/2024 academic year, the following majors had the following ratio of applicants to available spots: Medical Studies - 25 candidates per spot, Psychology (specialization: supporting quality of life) - 7.56, hybrid Italian Studies - 5.65, Criminology - 5.36, Nursing - 5.10, Management - 3.88, English Studies - 3.41, Law - 2.96, Psychology (specialization: business) - 2.84, Sinology - 2.67, Journalism and Social Communication - 2.48, Economics - 2.47, International Relations - 2.53, Informatics - 2.33, Biotechnology - 2.17, Obstetrics - 2.1. For certain majors such as Administration, National Security, Coaching and Career Counseling, Polish philology, Spanish studies, full-time Italian Studies, Special Pedagogy, and Artificial Intelligence, there were two interested applicants per available spot.
